"The five volumes of Cranch ... together with these two volumes, the three volumes of MacArthur's Reports, the one volume of MacArthur & Mackey, and the six volumes of Mackey's Reports ... must be considered as embodying the entire case law of the highest courts of this District from the session in 1801 down to 1888. This being so, there is no reason why the series should not be number consecutively, commencing with 1st Cranch as ʹ1st District of Columbia Reportsʹ." -- Pref.
