Edition Notes
Dobbs & Haun. Law Library at LC, p. 21, 31
Ms.
Written in Italy, the two major parts by two different scribes.
The primary content, Baldo degli Ubaldi's consilium, i.e. legal expertise, begins with last 13 lines on p. [3], continuing and concluding with 23 lines on p. 4. The 23rd line (if not the whole consilium) may be Baldo's autograph; it is followed by his seal, and two (autograph?) statements of concurrence, by Petrus de Perusio and Angelus de Perusio (with traces of seals).
The presentation of the legal case, p. [1-3] includes full text of the letter given in 1370, by virtue of an authorization by Pope Urban V, to the town of Recanati by Anglicus, Vicar-General for papal possessions in the area, confirming and extending privileges granted earlier and establishing, in particular, the town's jurisdiction in matters of criminal justice.
Written area 24.5-27.5 x 120-130 mm. On full p. [2], 51 lines.
Script of Baldo's consilium is a hybrid (prehumanistic gothic with letters s and f extending below the base line); that of the case presentation, professional documentary cursive.
Transcript of the text of the ms., with introductory study by Jolande Goldberg and reduced photoreproduction of p. [1] and [4], appeared in 1988 in Studi senesi, C (III serie, XXXVII) 1988 (p. [522]-534) (see also the offprint, LCCN 95216337).
