First Sentence

"I INTEND, in this chapter, to attempt a diftinct and particular explanation of the true ground of all focial morality-A great and moft concerning fubject, and proper to be underftood, in fome meafure, by all; becaufe a juft difcharge of thefe mutual focial obligations, which, in every age of the world, have been held and proclaimed as facred, is abfolutely neceffary to perfonal integrity, to the peace and order of families, the ftrength of civil communities, the dignity, improvement, and welfare of mankind."
