Roland, le pistolero, a fini par rejoindre Walter, l'homme en noir, sorcier de son état. Walter a lu l'avenir du pistolero dans un jeu de tarots : trois cartes dominent : le Prisonnier, la Dame d'Ombres et la Mort.
Sur la plage déserte où il se réveille, le pistolero est assailli par une horde de monstres marins qui lui dévorent quelques doigts de pieds et de mains et l'empoisonnent de leur venin. S'il veut sauver sa vie et, au-delà, comprendre le sens de sa quête, Roland doit franchir les trois portes qui se dressent sur la grève...
De l'autre côté, il rencontrera, dans d'autres espaces-temps, Eddie le Junkie, Detta/Odetta, et surtout Jake Mort qu'il doit vaincre s'il veut atteincre enfin la tour sombre.

The Dark Tower II

Part II of an epic saga. Roland, the last gunslinger, encounters three mysterious doorways on the beach. Each one enters into a different person living in New York. Through these doorways, Roland draws the companions who will assist him on his quest to save the Dark Tower.

The gunslinger came awake from a confused dram which seemed to consist of a single image: that of the Sailor in the Tarot deck from which the man in black had dealt (or purported to deal) the gunslinger's own moaning future.
