In its efforts to fully resuscitate, reorganize and reposition the WAI Brigade for effective and better service delivery, the National Orientation Agency organized and conducted 10 day intensive training exercise for the volunteer patriots in the commander cadre from all the 36 states and the Federal capital Territory (FCT), at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Sheri Hills, Jos between 12th to 22nd October 2009. The aim of the training is to restore WAI Brigade to the path of self esteem, honour, integrity and national relevance. The training was specifically conceived and designed to sharpen and strengthen the member’s mental and physical ability for the challenges of leadership and control over the various states WAI commands.

The recently concluded review of the WAI Brigade guidelines is a testimony of the genuine commitment and undiluted resolve by the National Orientation Agency to reposition the WAI Brigade, and thus provided the opportunity to update and fine tune the operational document that will regulate the activities of the WAI brigade at the National, State and Local Government Area levels. Therefore the guideline serves as the official referencing document for the activities of the Brigade. This was the major gain attained from the exercise which was held in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The Commanders affirmation which took place on Monday 2nd November 2009 at the NOA Headquarters, and subsequent participation at the National Parade, during the 50th Nigerian Independence Celebration, Abuja, was another attestation to that resolve and commitment. In her remarks, on behalf of the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, the Executive-Director OPE, Mrs. Patricia N. Oladipo, during the ceremony said “Today’s affirmation ceremony is a very important and critical aspect of our efforts to reposition the WAI Brigade on a firm pedestal”

The ED further stated that, “as you (state commanders) step forward to take the affirmation of allegiance and commitment to service, I urge you to do so with a high sense of responsibility and commitment to the laudable ideals for which the WAI Brigade is known and cherished by all. “Oath taking is an activity of the mind. Therefore, I urged you to properly condition your selves for this very important activity. I also urge you to strive at all times to abide by the spirit and letter of the affirmation.” Every state commander took affirmation according to his/her religious belief, i.e. The Holy Koran or Bible.
