Philip Grosser was an anarchist who refused to take part in a war to make the world safe for big business. Even after the war ended, he was kept imprisoned on Alcatraz for refusing to toe the line. Published in the 1930s, this is possibly the first exposé of America’s most notorious prison. It’s also a powerful account of resistance and endurance.
