Seven-year-old Ellen knew the lamp she found at the garage sale was magical. It was made of silver and had a long curving handle and a delicate chain. Ellen knew that if she rubbed the lamp, a genie would grant her every wish, and she and her struggling family would be happy forever after.

But then terrible, unspeakable things began to happen, and everyone blamed Ellen. They called her evil, a bad seed, a monster...but Ellen knew it was the genie she unleashed from the magical lamp who made bad things happen--and she knew he would never, ever go back inside.
