Like many of the regional histories reviewed here, this study relies heavily on a geographic and cultural format. Population patterns, bolstered by very useful statistics, are discussed in depth. Nearly devoid of any substantive political history, however, and, therefore, barely discusses much of the political unrest of the late 1950s-60s.
