Brian Rood (musician)

Brian Rood joined the Kansas City Symphony in 1995 and the Kansas City Brass in 2002. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, where he studied with Armando Ghitalla and Donald Green. Previously, Rood served as principal trumpet with the Michigan Opera Theater, Ann Arbor and Flint symphonies as well as the Des Moines Metro Opera. His solo recording for Music Minus One remains a best seller after twenty-five years. Additional performing credits include the Brass Band of Battle Creek, Detroit Chamber Winds, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Galliard Brass Ensemble, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra (1986-87) and Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute. Rood has presented master classes at the University of Michigan, University of Kansas, University of Missouri-Kansas City and the Eastman School of Music. He also has been a guest artist in residence at Truman State University. Rood served as president of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM) for 12 years and currently serves as chair of the ICSOM Electronic Media Committee. He serves as a trustee of the AFM & Employers’ Pension Fund and the AFM Strike Fund. He also has served as chair of the Kansas City Symphony Musicians and Negotiating Committees, Joint Retirement Committee and served on the Symphony’s Board of Trustees and Finance Committee. Rood is married to Kansas City Symphony’s assistant principal viola, Jessica Nance. They have two children, Grace and Robert, and live in Overland Park, Kansas. source
