Winthrop and Frances Neilson were both born in Philadelphia, where they went to school, met and were married. Since then they had lived in New York City, and had a house on Long Island where they went for country quiet and fishing. By 1958, between them, the Neilsons had thirteen books published - one of them, "Edge of Greatness", being a novel on 'one day in the life of Benjamin Franklin'. There titles include:

Winthrop Neilson was also an accomplished painter (oil, water color and more: http://www.rogallery.com/Neilson/Neilson_hm.htm). He started painting in his twenties while biking through Southern France with a paint box on his back. While visiting Rome he came up with his linear style.
