Philip Roden has taught history at John Marshall High School in Chicago since 1965. He is also assistant professor of education at Northwestern University, where he conducts a workshop for prospective inner-city teachers. He taught history and English while in the Peace Corps in Nigeria and worked for one and a half years with Project Upward Bound at Northwestern University. He has also written experimental materials for Project Social Studies at Northwestern.
