Juan Luis Maneiro

He was born in the Port City of Veracruz, New Spain (actual State of Veracruz, Mexico); he entered the Jesuit novitiate in 1759, and took refuge in Italy on the suppression of the Society of Jesus; returned to New Spain in 1799 after the Society of Jesus was reestablished. His works are "De vitis aliquot Mexicanorum, aliorumque qui sive virtute sire litteris Mexici imprimis floruerunt" (3 vols., Bologna, 1791); " De Vita Antonii Lopezii Portilii, Mexici primum, deinde Valentiae Canonici" (1791) ; "Joannes Aloisius Maneirus de Vita Petri Mall Sacerdotis Mexicanae" (1795); "Vita Michaelis Gutierrii Sacerdotis Mexicani" (still in manuscript) ; "Relación de la fúnebre ceremonia y exequias del Illmo. y Exmo. Sr. D. Alonso Nunez de Haro y Peralta, Arzobispo de Mexico " (Mexico, 1802); and " Inscripciones y Epigramas " (still in manuscript).

Mexican Jesuit teacher, scholar, biographer, theologian, and poet. After the expulsion of the Jesuits from Spanish provinces (1767), he went to Bologna, in the Papal States, where he wrote in Latin biographies of illustrious Mexican Jesuits.
