John Fraser was born in Scotland in 1846. He attended the University of Glasgow, and lived in Glasgow, London, New York, NY, and Chicago, IL. He was a professor of Rhetoric at the University of Chicago in the early 1880's. He was an editor in New York, owned a newspaper for a period of time in Glasgow, and a prolific writer and lecturer. He died April 30, 1886 in Chicago, Illinois.
