"There comes a time in everyones' life
when they feel the push to live everyday like a vacation!"
And Sydney did just that: She sold her father's (family) flooring company, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame exit in Canton, and moved to Kaua'i in '99. She ditched her wetsaw and trowels and started writing a series that didn't exist: Hawaiian novels in current time. She took a "solo" journey around the islands and lived like a local. All of the research in her novels comes from hands on experiences and interviews. (Sydney did not use the web until 2010, when she was forced to submit her manscripts via the Internet.)
Sydney left Ohio when she lost her mother, too early. She said, "Life wasn't going to end on me, not until I played in every Hawaiian waterfall!"
And landscape photographer turned Author!
Her mother was in realestate her entire life, and Sydney followed in her footsteps: designing and building custom homes (from the age of 21).
But her hobby jobs were at Borders and Barnes and Noble. She helped open the new Barnes and Noble in Lahaina, Maui, and works in the Timeshare industry fulltime.
Sydney grew up across the street from her Catholic school and church in Akron, Ohio and that lifestyle engulfed her entire childhood: volunteering her time! To this day, her favorite music is that of worship, and country is the runner up. Her family had, and has, a summer home on Portage Lakes and that's where you'd find her from June to September: on her mother's pontoon boat or jumping off the boat dock's roof! "I was never out of the water!" she says. "To this day, I have to see water at all times or I'm not balanced!" Her father loved to fish, and had a yacht on Lake Erie, so you'd see her in the Flats after a Brown's football game, on the island of Put-in-Bay, or at Cedar Point amusement park.
Her best friend was Jane Raymann and her grandmother owned the huge tudor mansion at the end of Sydney's street. Jane's family donated their entire property to the handicpped foundation for boys, and Sydney's father built their home on the Raymann's old orchard. (Sydney claims to be a fruitarian because her backyard was full of every fruit imaginable.)
Writing schedule is four hours in the morning, and four hours in the evening. And on her two days off of her outside job, she does not leave her writing room, at all. "To pump out novels every eight-months must consume 'all' of your time, or it just won't happen. I was told you had to get 8 novels under-your-belt to be successful in this industry, so I wrote 12!"
Hobby: Kayak or paddle-board out to the mammals in Kihei (Maui) during whale season. Then slip on a mask and observe mother and newborn interacting.
Interest: Pro Football. I will see a game in all (31) stadiums before I retire!
The love of my life: Writing Hawaiian Adventure Romance. I could not ask for anything more!
