Hassim Ismail Dockrat, born December 3, 1959 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Raised in Pretoria. He completed his high school at laudium Secondary School. Went on to study and completed his BA degree in Philosophy and International Politics as well as an Honours Degree in Strategic Studies through the University of South Africa. He also completed his FBL in Business Leadership. After having taught high school for one year he went on to join the South African Department of Foreign Affairs as a diplomat.
After spending three years in the foreign service Hassim I. Dockrat went on to private business. During this period he participated in numerous community and religious activities. In 1996 he co established the Institute for Human and Environmental Development. He also served as a consultant for business entities, government institutions, parastatals and other interest groups covering a wide variety of disciplines, which include diplomacy, development economics, micro-economic development, the defense and aviation industries as well as the general engineering industry.
Hassim published a book "Developing a Free Society" in 1996, and wrote numerous articles for local and international news journals on a variety of political and religious subjects. He spent a short time as an editor of a religious news journal. His association with IFEES led him to participate and present a paper on Religion and Ecology at Harvard University in 1999, titled "A Development Model Based on Islam's Organic Society". This was the same year he completed his Haj (Pilgrimage to Mecca). His last published article "China in Africa" in Globalia Magazine won him praise from business and political circles. His nom de plume for some of his written works are Hashim, instead of Hassim or H.I. Dockrat.
Hassim I Dockrat moved out of private business and since 2004 assumed a number of senior executive management positions in the corporate world. His corporate appointments meant that he moved locations to the different parts of Southern Africa and he currently resides in Durban South Africa.
Hassim I. Dockrat is considered a political traditionalist. His religious demeanour is strongly Sufic yet conservative in his religious outlook. He is well respected among peers and professional associates. He is highly regarded for his competence across a number of disciplines.
