Pape was a school master at the Middle School (later Wolstanton Grammar School) in Newcastle-under-Lyme from 1907 until he retired in 1931. On retirement he moved to Lancaster.
He produced books and articles onthe history of Newcastle under Lyme and Staffordshire. He was a member of the North Staffordshire Field Club (President in 1931) and contributed articles to the Transactions of the Club.
His papers are in the University Library at Keele. (PL 2009)
