An unusual HR for its time of publication, in that it portrays loss and infidelity in a more nuanced way than was usual for that time. What is more usual is the more polished writing than is found in many self-published HRs that are released nowadays. Consequences was published when HRs were proofread and edited - and it shows.
Consequences has three intertwined love affairs, all of interest. It also delves into the politics of the time, with Pitt the Junior a significant character. Its setting is rural England, near Bath, so there is no obsession with Almacks and the London Season. There is only a glancing reference to apparel, which is also refreshing. For fans of HR fiction, this is a recommended read.
