Edition Notes

First German edition of Stewart's "admirable popular exposition on energy was translated into French, German, Czech."-Zeitlinger (Sotheran, v.I,233). Balfour Stewart (1828-1887) of Edinburgh, noted for his work in physics, meteorology and terrestrial magnetism. His greatest contribution was his research on radiant heat for which he was awarded the Rumford medal by the Royal Society.
