First published in 1866 with title: A handbook of the art of illuminatinion.
Lacks the 4 page preface by Shaw found in the 1866 ed.; 12 of the wood engraved designs are replicated in colour by means of chromolithographs, with imprint: Vincent Brooks, Day & Son.
Added engraved t.p. and 15 wood engravings enumerated in table of contents, giving source of original and name of engraver for each plate.
Text and wood engravings printed at the Chiswick Press.
MASS copy 1: With the bookplate of "BM/CESV", and the hand-illuminated signature: Chas. Fewtrell, Liverpool. Bound in brown sand-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind.
MASS copy 2: Bound in brown cloth as copy 1.
