This is the first complete history of Sindh, a frontier province of Pakistan that was the gateway to Islam in the subcontinent. Although there have been many contemporary accounts of Sindh, from the Greek to the British period, and a number of books in Persian about some of the dynasties that ruled Sindh, Suhail Zaheer Lari's book is the first to fully cover the history of this area, from the earliest times to the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.
A History of Sindh, based on original sources including the proceedings of the Sindh Legislative Assembly and Muslim League Papers, is timely in filling the need for a scholarly study of this troubled province of Pakistan. It is hoped that this book will increase an understanding of this area - a land still shrouded in myths and legends - and contribute to a more knowledgeable and meaningful discussion of the social and political problems that face modern Sindh today.
