This book brings up to date and expands upon the subject matter of the book Spectroscopy of Advanced Materials, (Vol. 19, Advances in Spectroscopy). The major objectives of this established series are to integrate theory and practice and to bring together different branches of both academic and industrial research through the presentation of critical review articles in fundamental and applied spectroscopy.

Spectroscopy of New Materials contains reviews of six areas of materials science with an emphasis on characterization through the application of spectroscopic methods.

Topics covered are: chromophores for non-linear optical materials; photochromic materials, optical and infrared spectroscopy of phthalocyanine molecular assemblies; solid-state NMR studies of aluminophosphate-based molecular sieves; electronic and spectroscopic properties of conducting Langmuir-Blodgett films, and the spectroscopy of proton and electron co-operation systems.

The policy of the editors is to commission authoritative reviews by acknowledged leaders in the various fields of spectroscopy. Thus each volume presents a careful composed picture of the 'state of the art' for a particular area. For each volume the subject matter is presented in a manner which is comprehensible to the non-expert for whom the series will continue to provide a valuable introduction and an overview of topics in spectroscopy which are of current interest and importance.

At the same time the involved expert will find much to engage his attention. The series is aimed to be of interest to research scientists and technologists, to teachers and to both graduate and undergraduate students.
