Judge Chase was impeached for alleged misdemeanors in the political trials of Fries and Callender. Cf. Sabin, Dict. of books relating to America.

"Replication by the House of Representatives of the United States, to the answer of Samuel Chase, one of the associate justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. To the articles of impeachment exhibited against him by the said House of Representatives. Presented in open court by the Managers of the said House on Thursday, February 7th, 1805. Printed by order of the Senate". 4 p. at end.
