A book of mainly religious poems written by the Rev Rees Prichard, vicar of Llandovery in south Wales. Intended to spread the truths of Christianity and to encourage Christian living among ordinary people, the poems were written in the simplest of measures (as opposed to the complicated rhyme schemes so beloved by the bards) and using everyday language rather than archaic words and unfamiliar forms. Together with the Welsh Bible and the Welsh translation of "Pilgrim's Progress", these three were the standard libary of every Welsh home right down until modern times.
