An edition of City of palms (1957)

City of palms.

When Susan had first seen the tall dark stranger in the Paris airport, she could have had no knowledge of his part in her ultimate fate. On the plane from Paris to Baghdad Susan noticed him - a handsome stranger whose air of aloofness seemed to disguise some contempt for inexperienced travellers like herself. But when an emergency came, it was he who looked after her.

She was joining her father in Iraq to take a job there. That the position was with the dark gentleman, Raoul Mehmet Bey, was strange enough -- but that he should involve her in dangerous desert intrigues was fantastic. Just as fantastic as her falling in love with him. And he was once more to come to her rescue in the frightening wilderness of the desert.
