Creators Larry Welz and Larry Sutherland tell stories taking place in Bakersfield, California during the early ’70s. Published in 1973, Bakersfield Kountry Komics revolves around the usual underground comix topics, namely sex and drugs. In one tale, “Bakersfield Blues,” party animal Eddie devours handfuls of dope before getting together with a group of friends. He tries to convince a girl to have sex with him; however, she refuses to let go of her virginity. When she finally changes her mind, Eddie is knocked out from the narcotics. Welz found notoriety with the adult comic Cherry in the ’80s.
