Every second wood-engraved plate is included in pagination. Plates are signed as engraved by "Dalziel", "Edward Evans" and "E. Evans" [i.e. Edmund Evans?] after H. Weir, B. Foster and James Godwin.
Wood-engraved illustrations within the text are signed as engraved by W. T. Green, Dalziel, J. Jackson, C. Gray, [J.] W. Whimper, H. Harral, Measom, T. Williams, Landells, Bastin, A. J. Mason, Orrin Smith [i.e. John Orrin Smith?], Bolton, E. Evans and W. Dickes. Illustrators include B. Foster, John Gilbert, H. Weir, F. W. Hulme, G. Dodgson and G. F. Sargent.

With bookseller's embossed stamp: "Hale & Howarth 520 Ross St. Manchester". With presentation inscription dated 1865. With ownership label: "NHLT" [i.e. Nigel Temple].
