Most wood-engraved illustrations within the text are signed as engraved by John Thompson, Eliza Thompson, Nesbit, Landells, J. Jackson, Thomas Williams, "JM", Gorway, Miss Williams [i.e. Mary Ann Williams?] and Landells & Gray. Some are unsigned.

Includes "Index to the Engravings.": p. [243]-244.

With the same setting of type and wood-engraved illustrations as used in an 1860 edition of this title published by Routledge, Warne & Routledge. See McLean D 0811.

MASS copy: Bound in red diagonal wave-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind. Upper cover and spine blocked in gold with illustrated design signed "JL" [i.e. John Leighton]. Blocking in gold is in the same design and with the same signatures as that on the upper cover and spine of McLean D 0811. With yellow endpapers. With binder's ticket: "Bound by Burn. 37 & 38 Kirby St.".
