The results of an experiment to test the ARUM process (Acid Reduction Using Microbiology) in two open pits was described. The technology was designed to establish microbial populations utilizing organic material and was found to increase pH and lower metal concentrations in the pits. The process has potential use for mine decommissioning operations.
