Illustrations are engraved by Dalziel, Evans, Wimperis, Palmer, W. Thomas and Green.
Each season with a separate wood-engraved ill. t.p. printed on verso with text of "The Argument.".
MASS copy 1: Bound in blue morocco-grain cloth with design blocked in gold and blind on upper cover and in blind on lower cover. Spine blocked in gold. Upper cover, lower cover and spine signed "AW" [i.e. Albert Henry Warren]. Boards with bevelled edges; a.e.g.
MASS copy 2: Bound in red fine morocco-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind on the upper and lower cover in the same design and with the same signatures as on the upper cover of copy 1. Spine blocked in gold in the same design and with the same signature as copy 1. Boards with bevelled edges; a.e.g. With binder's ticket: "Leighton Son & Hodge, Shoe Lane London.". With ownership inscription: "[Hill Hollings?]". Although the sheets are the same as copy 1, the signatures on p. 131 and 137 differ, with the addition of the number "2" on those in this copy.
MASS copy 3: Bound in blue diagonal beaded-line grain cloth blocked in gold. Upper cover blocked in gold and lower cover blocked in blind with an illustration similar to those within the text. Boards with bevelled edges; a.e.g. With the same differences in signatures on p. 131 and 137 as copy 2.
MASS copy 4: Bound in dark red morocco blocked in gold. With board edges and turn-ins blocked in gold and gauffered edges. Front paste-down endpaper with binder's stamp: "Bound by Hayday". With the same differences in signatures on p. 131 and 137 as copy 2.
