La Poétique n'est pas une oeuvre de critique littéraire. Aristote reste un philosophe en étudiant, parallèlement à la physique, au sens étymologique du terme, les créations des hommes les plus révélatrices, à commencer par le faire poétique - surtout la tragédie. Avec ces quelques lignes, le texte d'Aristote retrouve toute sa dimension philosophique et son importance. Mais aussi la traduction, abondamment annotée, et novatrice, met à la portée de tous une part célèbre, et pourtant méconnue, de l'oeuvre aristotélicienne.
