Based on North's first edition (1579) which included, besides Plutarch's writings, two "fabrications" ("Hannibal" and "Scipio African") This edition also includes seven additional "fabrications" (the lives of Epaminondas, Philip of Macedon, Dionysius, Octavius Caesar, Plutarch, Seneca, and the "Nine chieftains") and North's translation of a comparison of Alexander and Caesar, written by Simon Goulart, all of which were contained in North's edition of 1603. Cf. Vol. 1, p. v.
