This is a four-volume series that documents the nature of slavery specifically as it was practiced in Savannah, Georgia, in the years just before and during the American Civil War. It is heavy on the use of historical photography and provides a great deal of information based on original research or which has rarely been presented before to the public. The project was undertaken and published to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. It launched in 2011 with publication of the first volume, Savannah, Immortal City.
