I look for writers and books that seem very accomplished but are not always recognized. The same goes for subjects, like stem cell research targeting specific utility, that gets ignored because it doesn't fit in with the conceptual practice of popular culture. I'm not out to be a "taste-maker" just selfishly making sure I don't miss out on gold buried beneath media hype and sharing what I find with whoever's interested.
