Edition Notes
Holograph, signed.
Henry Grafton Chapman writes regarding family business and money. Yesterday was the opening of the "abolition Fair (which they had the effrontery to style anti-slavery)..." Maria Weston Chapman received money from Mrs. Eliza Lee Cabot Follen and from Mrs. Lucy Sessions. Lucy Sessions says that "Sister [Mrs. Abigail] Folsom is a precious soul." [Mrs. Abigail Folsom was called by R.W. Emerson "that flea of Conventions." Compare with the essay "The Chardon Street Convention" in Lectures and Biographical Sketches."] Joel P. Bishop is giving trouble, demanding that William Lloyd Garrison publish an inquisitory letter in the Liberator. "His letter Garrison decided at once he sh'd not publish."
