Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

This letter is an appeal for charitable assistance on behalf of Michael Sheehy, an educated and once affluent Irishman, and his family, who are living in destitution in a basement room. Sheehy is an accountant, a teetotaler, and an advocate of anti-slavery. He has lectured on Daniel O'Connell. He has credentials from Father Mathew, Quincy A. Shaw, and others. He needs clothing, money, and employment.

See Call No. Ms.A.1.1 v.5, p.44, for a similar letter by William Lloyd Garrison, dated June 20, 1857.
