Edition Notes
Holograph, signed.
On page one of this manuscript, there is a letter by J[onathan?] Drake to Maria Weston Chapman. The engraver, Mr. Foster, promises to have the work done by the first of June.
On the bottom of page one through page two, there is a separate letter by Mrs. Frances H. Drake to Maria Weston Chapman. Frances H. Drake regrets that the affair (of the engraver mentioned in the note by J[onathan] Drake) should have given Maria W. Chapman so much trouble and hopes that Mr. Foster will keep his promise. Frances H. Drake has received a letter from Mrs. Abby Kelley Foster informing her of the prospective Worcester County Fair and has written to friends "in all the neighboring towns" asking for aid. Since Frances H. Drake saw Maria W. Chapman there has been a "grand success here in selling books, & getting subscribers to [the]Liberator of the right sort, disunion signatures, etc."
