William Lloyd Garrison's rheumatism is causing him so much pain that it is hard for him to do much reading and writing. Dr. Paine is taking care of him. He recently saw Dr. Edward H. Clarke, whose diagnosis was "sub-acute inflammation of the periosteum," and prescribed bromide of ammonia, which gave no relief. William L. Garrison writes: "Harry, Fanny, and the children left us a week ago, to occupy a furnished cottage in Montrose Avenue, near Walnut Street, (about a mile from Rockledge,) at the rate of $1200 per annum." Harry Villard seems to be doing well pecuniarily. Cousin Julia Randall has been staying at Rockledge.
