After 2 decades George Menezes quit 5 years ahead of his retirement date as Director - Personnel from the pharma giant Hoechst to make way for restless youngsters eager to move up the ladder. Some thought of it as a foolish move and others saw it as a path-breaking concept. A business magazine described it as 'George's Idea of De-recruitment.' The book draws heavily from George's experience from his career as Human Resource Practioner and is focussed on what every HR Manager should know about empowerment. The case studies are either touching or downright hilarious. Serious situations like dealing with dreaded trade union leader Mr. Datta Samant and being completely honest with business owners like Mr. Oberoi has been presented in sophestry and humour which George is known for. The scripts emerge from a concrete subjectivity, immersive for both the writer and the reader.
"While this is a rare work today, it is no less valuable and not a moment late in its significance to matters of Human Sensitivity and judiciousness in workplace actions. Joseph George A, PHD Partner, Workplace Catalyst, LLP.
George Menezes began his career in the Indian Air Force and later joined Hoechst Pharmaceuticals Ltd in 1962, where he rose to become the Director responsible for Personnel. He completed his Post Graduate diploma in Business Management and did an internship in Human Behaviour at the National Training Laboratory in at Bethel, Maine, USA. After quitting Hoechst, he worked as a consultant to many companies in India.George has received a number of awards in his career. His outstanding abilities in the field of Human Resource management was acknowledged by the National Institute of Personnel and the TATA Institute of Social Sciences with a Life Time Award for Innovative HR Management.
