The monograph „The book as media“ is appeared at the end of 2012. The book is composed in three parts by the principle of the subordination: first part – theory (terminology and laws), history and methodology of the book as media category – unity of content and form (the chapters 1-8); than these two components of the „book as medium“ are deployed separately in the second part – the book as media content/text/soul (the chapters 9-11) and in the third part – the book as media form/carrier/body (the chapters 12-17 to the end). Uniting the last two parts technics is the continuous examination (theoretical-empirical approbation) by the communication formula of „media“ = media content + media code + media carrier.
The thematic scope of the monograph is presented in 17 chapters:
1. What is this „book”? – the point of view of the bibliology and of the mediology
2. Etymology of the book as medium
3. Genealogy of the book
4. Evolution of the book
5. Archeology of the book
6. Post-Gutenberg book
7. Mediatory of the book – the intermediaries in the life cycle of the book
8. Feedback with the book
9. Media content: the book as text (information)
10. The book – manipulation tool
11. The dangerous book
12. The media form: the book as body (carrier)
13. Pragmatics of the inner book – the book as object, the book as subject, the book as symbol and metaphor
14. The post-book body – non-books and anti-books
15. Pathologics of the inner book
16. The paper – the reliable media body

„The book as medium“ appeared at the end of 2012 as publishing innovation for Bulgaria. The innovation character of the edition was in three aspects: it was the first scientific book with video trailer, the first print scientific edition with QR code on the cover and the first scientific monograph with its own website with extended content. By scanning of the QR code on the display of the smartphone opens the website of the book, where the reader discovers rich additional information about it. The eponymous website „The book as media“ (web address: http://book-as-media.enthusiast.bg) unfolds the print book in an original cross media format with extended content. The published online content, complementing the print edition, represents a reference apparatus: a summary of the book; selected quotes of the book; biographical information about the author; the complete bibliography to the monograph – in the print edition are exported only 225 main sources, and in the website is published the complete bibliography of 791 cited and used sources; four indexes – of the personal names (590 pcs), of the headings of the analyzed works (620 pcs), subject heading list (2020 key words) and geographical (165 objects).
