Goodmans is a successful but old-fashioned department store built up by Abigail Goodman and her late husband Tom, and it is full of her memories of him. Douglas Benson, Abigail's son-in-law, is determined to gain control of the store and completely modernize it, becoming ever more ruthless and devious in his attempts to oust her. Meanwhile Abigail's son John presents the family with another crisis.

A serial killer is stalking the closes and wynds of Edinburgh and it looks like John may be a suspect. At this uncertain time, Abigail has to struggle to protect both her family and her life's work.
