A novel of the early Christian era. The story opens with Joel as the dramatic main character, a man who appeared but briefly in the four Gospels. His name, however, has been on the lips of the Christian world for 19 centuries. The role Joel assumes is extremely interesting and plausible. It opens to the reader a new possibility in connection with the plot that led up to events surrounding the crucifixion. Wine of Morning is a story of insurrection and intrigue, but also of romance. Woven into the background is a deeper appreciation of Christ's ministry and sacrificial death. What happens in connection with many once-mentioned New Testament characters and the miracles which the Son of God performed comprise a narrative that is sure to grip every reader. - Jacket flap.
A thrilling story! Joel -- what a sinister figure, slinking in the shadows, furtive, fearless, bandit and murderer, and yet the hero of his fellow-men, to be preferred above Jesus of Nazareth. Who was he? How did the "Son of the Rabbi" become a robber, and under condemnation of crucifixion, only to be released at the last moment? Bob Jones, Jr. has re-told in his own graphic way the story of Jesus from the viewpoint of Barabbas. It is a thrilling story, brilliantly written, rich in imagination and Bible lore. - V. Raymond Edman, President, Wheaton College - Jacket flap.

Edition Notes
About the author: Dr. Jones has enjoyed one of the most unique and unusual ministries of any man his age on the American continent. Having been a student in five of the nation's leading educational institutions as well as having studied abroad, he possesses not only culture and training but has the gifts of common sense and spiritual insight. Still in his 30s, Dr. Jones is president of Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. Jones turned his back on flattering stage and screen offers to become minister of the gospel. He is in constant demand for evangelistic meetings, Bible conferences, and youth rallies. He travels between 50,000 and 100,000 miles each year filling such engagements. Dr. Jones has been the featured speaker on a series of religious broadcasts heard from coast to coast on national networks. Because of his work in religious moving pictures, his face is familiar to many thousands who have never heard him preach. A frequent contributor to religious periodicals, he is also known for the weekly syndicated articles, "A Look at the Book," which are carried in newspapers in all sections of America. He is the author of many books, including sermons, devotional works, a textbook on preaching, and now an historical novel, Wine of Morning. The degree of Doctor of Letters was conferred upon Dr. Jones at the age of 23, making him possibly the youngest man ever to receive such a degree. Three years later he received the degree of Doctor of Humanities and more recently the Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Divinity. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society of London, and is active on many national and international boards and committees. - Jacket back.
