La curiosidad y las promesas pueden ser malas consejeras. Martín, superviviente de la guerra del Rif y periodista en ciernes, acude a la misa anual por el alma de Juan, un compañero de armas al que ayudó a regresar a su hogar para morir. Durante el acto religioso repara en la figura del padre del fallecido, Tomás Raposo, quien considerará a Martín como el más indicado para su particular confesión. De este modo, Tomás relatará una extraña historia de amor, violencia y traición acontecida en la Cuba del verano de 1898 y que, aun transcurridas más de dos décadas, le persigue como un fiero fantasma vengativo.

Curiosity and promises can be bad advisors. Martin, a survivor of the Rif war and budding journalist, attends the annual mass for the soul of Juan, a comrade in arms whom he helped to return home to die. During the religious act he notices the figure of the father of the deceased, Tomás Raposo, who will consider Martin as the most suitable for his particular confession. In this way, Tomás will tell a strange story of love, violence and betrayal that took place in Cuba in the summer of 1898 and that, even after more than two decades, haunts him like a fierce vengeful ghost.
