Edition Notes

"Sixty copies of the Oresteia were printed at The Gehenna Press from early autumn of 2000 through the dry spring of 2002. The forty-seven woodcuts are printed from the original cherry blocks cut by Leonard Baskin. The paper is Zecchi, hand made in Italy. The types are Centaur & Arrighi, composed & cast by the Golgonooza Letter Foundry. The printing of the letterpress was achieved by Arthur Larson & Daniel Keleher of Hadley, Massachusetts"--Colophon.

"The edition is arranged as follows: ten special copies, numbered 1-10, carry a preparatory drawing, an extra suite of the woodcuts printed on Italian & Japanese hand made papers and a woodcut portrait of Ted Hughes; these copies also contain a page of Hughes' manuscript & an actual woodblock. The regular edition consists of copy numbers 11-60"--Colophon.

"Claudia Cohen bound the edition"--Colophon.

LC has copy 6 which includes an extra suite of 49 woodcut prints (including 2 portraits of Ted Hughes), all numbered 6/10 and signed L.B., a ms. page by Hughes that begins, "Let that flame come leaping ...," and the preparatory drawing and woodblock of the head of Agamemnon that appears opposite page 14 in the first volume. Two copies of the prospectus laid in.
