"Genesis is the fiftieth publication of the Arion Press ... It was designed and produced under the direction of Andrew Hoyem, with the assistance of Gerald Reddan, Eric Holub, Stephanie Dal Porto, Leif Erlandsson, Peggy Gotthold, and Peter Stoelzl. The types are: for the Hebrew, Hadassah, designed by Henri Friedlaender, issued in 1958; for the English, Lydian, designed by Warren Chappell, issued in 1938-89. Both designers came under the influence of the calligrapher and type designer Rudolf Koch in Offenbach, Germany ... The Hebrew was set in photocomposition, through the good offices of Jaacov Har-El, by El Ot Printing Enterprises in Tel Aviv. The English was set in photocomposition by Mackenzie & Harris in San Francisco. The text was printed by letterpress from photopolymer plates. The paper is Prague, handmade at the Velké Losiny mill in the Czech Republic. The etching was printed by Robert E. Townsend in Georgetown, Massachusetts. The paper for the binding is Colombe, handmade at the Larroque et Pombié mill in France. The edition is limited to 200 numbered copies for sale and 26 lettered copies hors de commerce. Each copy is signed by the artist and the translator. Completed in October of 1996. This is copy: 84 [signature] Robert Alter"--Colophon.
