Manuscripts written by Naxi priests; annotated catalog prepared by Zhu Baotian.
Category D, item NZC262-263 are gifts from Chris Ringwalt; Category P includes 573 manuscripts, in photostat format, from Virginia Harrison in 1935.
Restricted; Material extremly fragile; Access by appointment only.
Selected items from the collection are also available in digital form on the Library of Congress Web site under the title: Selections from the Naxi manuscript collection.
Two acquisitions: 1689 manuscripts from Joseph Rock between 1924 and 1945; 1073 manuscipts from Quentin Roosevelt in 1941; one gift collection of 2 manuscripts from Chris Ringwalt in 2001.
Scholar Collector Joseph Rock, botanist and linguist, went on National Geographic Society expeditions in 1930's.
All manuscripts are in Naxi with annotations, a partial translation, in Chinese.
