"Inspired by a 1570 Ortelius atlas ... The prints are on Rives BFK and are hinged with rice paper. Pop-up elements are made from Canson. The vintage stamps and compasses were found. There are 30 copies"--Colophon.
Bound in 1 cm. wooden boards with a black leather spine. Boards are painted to look like maps; upper board has a compass embedded in its center.
Illustrated endpapers. Stylized maps include the author's homes in Boston and Michigan, and Florence, Italy. The six pop-ups are the Summer Street Bridge and the artist's studio in Boston, the Mackinac Bridge and a cabin in Michigan, and Ponte Santa Trinita and Santa Croce in Florence.
