GENEALOGY: Hughes Morgan, (Dec. 19, 1849-Oct. 8, 1934), was a grandson of Zachariah Morgan (I), (ca 1770-75 to 1841). Zachariah (I) first showed up in the 1800 Census of the Old Pendleton District of SC. From there, Zach (I) began a northward migration to and through Buncombe Co., NC (1805), then Lee Co., VA (1807-ca1814), on to Harlan Co., KY (1815), and last to Leslie (or Clay Co. it was then), (183? to 1841), where he died. Along the trail he had 15 children who have now generously populated the Eastern KY counties of: Harlan, Clay, Perry and Leslie. Hughes Morgan's father was Joseph, one of the older children of Zachariah (I). Joseph was born in Lee Co., VA, and Hughes was born in Clay Co., KY (now Leslie Co.), KY. Hughes and wife Sallie had a family of nine children, plus Hughes had another son outside his marriage to Sallie. All of these children and the first four generations of their families are listed in this compilation.
