The title page is printed within a typographical border in multiple colours, forming a specimen of "artistic printing" of the period. Several other specimens are printed in two or more colours.
Probably printed around 1887 (the last date apparent in specimen settings in the text is August 1886).
Issued in publisher's cloth with the cover title "Specimen book printing types H.W. Caslon & Co." and spine title "Caslon."
Includes a list of "Prices of printing types" and an "Estimate for a complete jobbing office on a small scale."
The final 14 leaves are printed both recto and verso.
Rare Book copy: From the Typographic Library and Museum of the American Type Founders Company, with its bookplate.
