Adel Abidin (born 1973 in Baghdad, Iraq) is an internationally renowned contemporary artist, residing between Helsinki, Finland, and Amman, Jordania. This exhibition catalogue is published in conjunction with Abidin's major solo show at Ateneum Art Museum in 2018. Abidin's work is characterised by a strong social ethos. Through his art, he deals with difficult topics, such as identity, discrimination, war, history and its manipulation. He is often using light humour and sarcasm, but in the end, his works come across as profound, serious and even gloomy. In 'History Wipes', Adel Abidin challenges us to look at our memories and their ambiguity. Exhibition: Ateneum Art Museum, Helsinki, Finland (14.03.-22.04.2018).
