First ed. A second ed. was pub. the same year with identical text but with some changes to the plates.
The plates consist of 6 photogravures, 4 heliotypes, 2 lithographs, and 1 chromolithograph after drawings or photographs by Nasmyth; and 12 mounted photographs on 11 leaves (10 autotypes by Brooks, Day & Son and 2 Woodburytypes)--with printed captions.
The 12 photographs include: 1 Woodburytype (pl. III)--of the moon's surface from a negative taken through a telescope by W. De La Rue, and 1 Woodburytype and 10 autotypes from negatives by Nasmyth of deceptive models of the moon's surface.
